Gwen, a granddaughter of Suza Young Gates, was born and reared in Salt Lake City.

She worked at the University of Utah for many years. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the "U." She became a college Professor in Sociology spending most of her career at Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, AL. Upon her retirement she was awarded the status of Professor Emeritus and a scholarship was established in her name.

When she retired (age 72) she returned to Utah and settled in Park City to be near her beloved mountains. She was very active as a volunteer for the Park City Arts Council, The Utah Aids Foundations and was instrumental in establishing a PFLAG chapter in Salt Lake City.

She is survived by sons, J Thomas (SLC), R Richard (Layton); daughter, Barbara Thompson (Wetumpka, AL); and three grandchildren.

Gwen was cremated per her instructions. There will be a memorial gathering Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, SLC Tues. June 10, visitation with family 1-2 p.m. with an honor of Gwen's life at 2 p.m. The family asks that no flowers be sent. Contributions to the Gweneth G. Mulder Scholarship Fund, Jacksonville State University, 700 Pelham Rd, Jacksonville, AL 36265-1602 are suggested.
