Auditions

Auditions are scheduled this week for two plays and a storytelling festival.

HALE CENTER THEATER OREM will hold auditions on Tuesday by appointment only for its production of Ruth and Nathan Hale's comedy, "Love Is for the Byrds," directed by Paul Hill and scheduled to run July 25-Aug. 23. There are roles for men, ages 20-40, and women, 19-80 years of age. There will be cold readings from the script. To schedule an audition time, call (801) 226-8600.

WEBER STATE UNIVERSITY is seeking storytellers from throughout the region for its annual Storytelling Festival, Nov. 10-12. Auditions will be held Saturday, 1-4 p.m., in the Weber County Library main branch, 2464 Jefferson Ave. (600 East), in Ogden.

Audition material should be five minutes or less in length. Please bring a photograph, biography and current resume of your storytelling experience. Stories must be suitable for children. Due to the size of the audiences, the use of small props is discouraged.

Those unable to attend the live audition may submit audition tapes that meet the following guidelines: videotapes only; maximum five minutes in length. Stories must be memorized and performed with subject matter suitable for school children.

Send videotapes to: Paul D. Pitts, Teacher Education Dept., Weber State University, 1304 University Circle, Ogden, UT 84408-1304.

THIS IS THE PLACE HERITAGE PARK will hold auditions on Tuesday and Wednesday, 6:30-8 p.m., in the Social Hall of Old Deseret Village for the summer production of "Are We There Yet?" Compiled and directed by Michael Jesse Bennett, the production is based on excerpts of lighter moments from journals about the Mormon Pioneer Trek.

For the auditions, Bennett is asking for males and females, ages 8 and up, but mostly adult men. There are two roles requiring men who can speak with a proper British or Cockney dialect. There will be cold readings from the script; come prepared to sing (anything from "God Bless America" to LDS hymns).

Rehearsals begin the following week; performance dates are July 24-26 and July 31-Aug. 2. No roles will be double-cast; all players must be available for all six performances.
