1918~2003

Earl B. Nielsen, 84, passed away on July 9, 2003 at Mt Grand General Hospital in Hawthorne. He was born Sept. 1, 1918 in Blue Creek, Utah to Arthur R. & Chloe B. Nielsen.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wanda; and his three children, son Earl S. (Paula) of Reno; daughters Janet (Carlos) Litster of Farmington, Utah; and Lyle of Reno; sister LaRue Youngberg of Walnut Creek, CA; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Lyle; brothers Rex and Arthur; and sisters Margaret and Ruth. Earl was raised in a dry wheat farm in northern Utah. He completed high school at East High in Salt Lake City, and attended the University of Utah before joining the Army Air Corps, serving in Japan and Okinawa during World War II.

Earl was the General Manager for Hyland Motors in Ely from 1949 to 1966, then owned and operated Woody's Chevrolet in Hawthorne from 1966 to his retirement in 1986.

He was a member of the LDS Church. Earl served as Past Exalted Ruler of the Ely Elks Lodge, president of the Lion's Club and Commander of the American Legion Post in Ely. Earl was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a generous and thoughtful friend.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, July 12. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. at the LDS Hawthorne Ward. The funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Interment will be Monday, July 14, at the Draper City Cemetery in Draper, Utah at 10 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Gunter's Funeral Home, Hawthorne, NV.
