In response to Richard D. Rees' comments concerning Mormons for Equality & Social Justice ("Equality group is warped," Tuesday), I am concerned about members of the LDS Church — indeed, all Christian denominations — who believe that social justice is a not a Christian value, and that political activity of a liberal kind is contrary to LDS doctrine. To quote from, "Yet, while the Church is institutionally neutral, it does encourage Latter-day Saints to be politically involved as individuals for the betterment of their communities."

I am not a member of MESJ, but I have taken the time to at least read their positions on several community issues and am impressed that they not only ground their positions in the foundation of LDS Church doctrine and policy but that they actually "Go and do thou likewise," as Christ commands.
