University of Minnesota driver Brian Eickhoff passes the landmark Gemini Giant in Wilmington, Ill., Sunday during the first day of the American Solar Challenge, a 2,300-mile cross-country solar car race. The race is one method of evaluating the feasibility and efficiency of solar-car designs.
