A recent Deseret Morning News story revealed that natural gas users would soon face a 25 percent hike in their monthly bill. We were informed that this was justified as a "pass-through rate increase" because of the increased cost to Questar for various industry reasons.
It seems obvious that the consumer public is subjected to the same "pass-through costs" by government entities, the cable TV industry, the banking industry and a host of other services where open competition is not possible or has been circumvented by businesses through favored legislation. There is precious little consumer protection from "pass-through increases."
Where are the protections we can legitimately expect from government? Where are our statesmen?
