STOCKTON, Tooele County — A 44-year-old Stansbury Park man died after a hang gliding crash late Thursday afternoon.

The name of the man has not been released, Tooele County Sheriff Frank Park said. Paramedics were on scene performing CPR about 5:40 p.m. Thursday.

About 5:15 p.m. Thursday, the man took off from a mountain near the old Bauer mine and county landfill, Park said. The area is popular with hang gliders because of constant wind.

Somehow the man crashed and hit the ground hard, Park said. There are no large trees in the area.
