A roundup of reports from around the NBA on this shopping season.
From the Palm Beach Post:
When guard Anthony Carter's agent, Bill Duffy, failed to inform the Miami Heat by June 30 of his client's intention to renew the final year of his contract for $4.1 million, it made Carter a free agent and gave the Heat more money to pursue free agents. They have their sights on, among others, P.J. Brown, Brad Miller and James Posey. Alonzo Mourning might be more likely to re-sign with Miami now.
From the Orange County Register:
Clippers still have interest in re-signing center Michael Olowokandi. Spurs like Elton Brand but are wary of tendering him an offer sheet for fear the Clippers will match it. Clippers are telling everyone they want to keep their "core group" together.
From the Los Angeles Times:
Elton Brand has been offered a five-year, $65 million deal by the Clippers.
Detroit Free Press:
Juwan Howard would prefer to be a Laker but is leaning toward signing with Minnesota since he's apparently not L.A.'s No. 1 target. Sam Cassell, recently traded to the Timberwolves, is recruiting Howard.
Pistons want to trim their roster via a 2-for-1 trade, with Cliff Robinson, Corliss Williamson, Hubert Davis and Chucky Atkins among those mentioned.
From the New York Daily News:
Spurs guard Tony Parker says he has no problem with playing on the same team as Jason Kidd. Parker said he'd be happy to play shooting guard.
From the Rocky Mountain News:
Denver GM Kiki Vandeweghe has met with Dan Fegan, agent for Warriors point guard Gilbert Arenas. Fegan reportedly wants a first-year salary of $9 million for his client, while the Nuggets don't want to pay more than $7 million.
Any interest Jason Kidd might have had in the Nuggets is "pretty much dead," a source said.
From the St. Paul Pioneer Press:
Pacers are interested in Timberwolves' Terrell Brandon, as salary-cap relief for next season. Timberwolves want Al Harrington or Ron Artest, but Pacers would rather trade Austin Croshere.
From the Orlando Sentinel:
Magic are focusing their recruiting efforts on P.J. Brown, who will meet with the team this week. Orlando has also talked to Speedy Claxton and Antonio Daniels.
From the Cleveland Plain Dealer:
Cavaliers are seeking to trade Chris Mihm and Darius Miles.
