Scout Pow Wow set just twice this year

PROVO — Traditionally the Boy Scout Pow Wow is held each year on three consecutive Saturdays for Scouts to earn merit badges on their way to becoming an Eagle Scout.

But this year, through streamlining, Scouts will have just two consecutive Saturdays for the 48th annual event, Nov. 1 and 8 at Brigham Young University and Utah Valley State College. All Scouts, ages 11-18, may attend. Registration forms are included in brochures now available from local Scoutmasters. All registration information is included in the brochure.

Scouts register individually, not as troops. Because space is limited, Scouts should get their registrations in early, said Deward Murray, merit badge Pow Wow director.

Registration can be made by mail, by telephone at 801-378-8925, or in person. All mail-in registration forms must be received at the Brigham Young University Continuing Education office by Sept. 29. Beginning Sept. 30, registration will only be taken in person or by phone. Walk-in registration continues through Friday, Oct. 10, and phone registration goes through Friday, Oct. 24, or until the program is filled. Scouts cannot register late.

If Scoutmasters haven't received the "Pow Wow 2003" brochure by mail, they should call 801-378-3817, Murray said.
