GOLF: The BYU men's golf team will kick off its 2003-04 season this weekend at the 48th annual William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque.
The University of New Mexico will host the tournament on its Championship Golf Course, which measures 7,354 yards with a par of 72.
The Cougars will compete against 20 other teams, six of which placed in the 2003 NCAA Championships. The Cougars will take their top finishers to compete this weekend, including juniors Todd Miller, Greg Machtaler and Ron Harvey Jr., sophomore Oscar Alverez and freshman Georgia Tech transfer Jake Ellison.
The Cougars will begin play of 36 holes Friday with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday the team will continue play in the final 18 holes with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m.
SOCCER: For the first time this season, the No. 12 Cougars (3-0-1) are traveling away from South Stadium as they head to the University of Kentucky, to participate in the Kentucky Invitational. BYU will play two games in the tournament , squaring off against No. 14 Kentucky (2-1-1) on Friday and Iowa (1-3-0) on Saturday.
CROSS COUNTRY: Weber State's men's and women's cross country teams are back in action this weekend, competing in the BYU Autumn Classic. The men's four mile race begins at 10 a.m. The Women's 5K race begins at 11 a.m. Both races will be held on the Cascade golf course on 800 North in Orem. Weber is coached by Chick Hislop, now in his 35th season.
CROSS COUNTRY: Southern Utah University's men's and women's cross country teams return to competition this Saturday at the San Diego State Aztec Invitational. The women's invitational 5-kilometer race will start at 9:45 a.m. (MDT), while the men's 8K run will follow at 11 a.m. at Balboa Park in San Diego, Calif. The Thunderbirds will compete against teams from nationally-ranked Northern Arizona and UCLA, Biola, CS Dominguez Hills, CS Los Angeles, CS San Marcos, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, Southern Cal and SDSU.
SWIMMING: Utah's swimming schedule includes seven home meets beginning with the Utah Senior Invite on Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. On Oct. 24, Utah will renew the Utah-BYU Relays. Conference meets will begin on Nov. 7-8 as the women open with San Diego State on Nov. 7 and both the men and women will be in action on Nov. 8 against UNLV. All home meets will be held at the Ute Natatorium, which is directly north of the Jon M. Huntsman Center (1825 E. South Campus Drive).
