NASA task force isn't sure of shuttle's return

HOUSTON (New York Times News Service) — The task force that will oversee the space shuttle's return to flight said on Thursday that it was not sure when NASA could achieve that goal, but that time was not of the essence.

"To say, 'All right, we can have all our work done at a particular time' isn't quite possible yet," said Col. Richard O. Covey, a former astronaut who is the co-chairman of the 26-member panel. The group has spent recent days at the Johnson Space Center here studying the space agency's plan to return to flight.
