COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A security guard found handcuffed to the steering wheel of his burning car was rescued by police as flames threatened to ignite the gas tank.
The fire had been set Thursday in the back of the hatchback, said fire Capt. Steve Saltsman.
It wasn't immediately clear how Craig Stanton wound up handcuffed to the steering wheel. Saltsman said the handcuffs belong to Stanton. The officers responding to the fire had to use a universal handcuff key to free him.
Stanton, 19, suffered first- and second-degree burns and smoke inhalation and was hospitalized in serious condition.
