HOLLADAY — And then there were five.

Former state legislator Ray Short announced this week he is dropping out of the race for Holladay mayor.

Short, who announced his decision Wednesday at a mayoral candidates' debate, then endorsed Dennis Webb.

Webb is competing with Keith Haines, Margaret Keate, Bob Neslen and Jay Todd for the position of mayor, which will become a voting member of the City Council when Holladay's new council-manager form of government takes effect in January.

"I filed to make sure that at least I knew one person who could do the job," the 69-year-old Short said Friday. "I found somebody else that I feel comfortable with, so I was perfectly happy to endorse Dennis Webb and I will help him on his campaign."

A debate between candidates for Holladay City Council is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of Olympus Junior High School.
