Obituary: Jean Ellefsen Howard

Beloved Mother

and Friend

Jean Evelyn Ellefsen Howard, 76, passed away September 12, 2003, in Salt Lake City, Utah, after a long, valiant battle with cancer.

She was born Jan 24, 1927 to Hans Trygve Hilland and Ruth Taylor Ellefsen. She married Vernon Ray Howard Oct 4, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Holladay 14th Ward). Jean attended South High School and the University of Utah. She actively helped her husband operate Hyland Boat and Motor for 45 years.

Mom loved her cabin in the mountains, traveling with family and friends, and BYU football. Some of her most treasured moments were our annual trips to Yellowstone, and any time spent at her cabin. She bore a painful, lingering illness with humor and dignity; she was a great example to us all. "Mom, we love you more than you can believe."

The family would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Marta Jean Petersen for the compassionate care she provided our mom over the years. Mom thought the world of you.

Jean is survived by her five children, Cyndy (Randy) Teal, Thomas (Cathy) Howard, Nancy Howard, Patty (Brent) Bryan, Craig (Christine) Howard; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Diane (Reed) Tanner; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ferron Howard, Harold (Shirley) Howard, Frances (Bob) Wursten, Joyce Kroon (friend and care giver); and Miss Kitty. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
