1942 ~ 2003

Val Murlen Randall, age 60, passed away on September 10, 2003 due to complications following knee surgery.

Val was born on November 28th 1942 in Salt Lake City and raised in Centerville, the son of Thomas and Lenore Randall and Dorothy Manning. He faithfully served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western Canadian mission from 1962-1964. Soon after his missionary service he married Jolaine Parrish on July 31st 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated from Bountiful High in 1961 and from the University of Utah with a Bachelors degree in Business in 1970.

Val loved life. He could scarcely leave his neighborhood without coming across someone he knew. He had a natural ability to make others smile, laugh, and feel better when in his presence. Through his service in the Church and community he touched the lives of many both young and old. Val served as a bishop and as a member of several bishoprics including a young adult ward. He loved to work with the youth. He has served in the Bountiful Temple for the past five years. Val is affectionately known by his grandchildren as the grandpa who would wrestle with and tickle them. He would have sacrificed anything, including his life, for his family. Val was privileged to make his career with his family. Val and his four brothers own an oil and gasoline distributing business, which was founded in part by their father, Tom Randall. Val loved to play golf and would search for any and every opportunity to play. He was a member of the men's association at both Davis County and Bountiful Ridge golf course. Val and his friends would travel hundreds of miles to leave the winter snow and find warm golfing weather. He even managed 27 holes on the day before his knee surgery. Val was an avid supporter of the University of Utah athletics. He was a season ticket holder to both football and basketball. He and his wife traveled with the Utes all the way to the final four in San Antonio in 1998.

Val is survived by his wife, Jolaine, five children; Scott (KaeLyn), Kristin Augustine, Kevin (Jennifer), Neil (Candace), Carrie Cox (Scott), 15 grandchildren, parents; Tom and Lenore Randall and Dorothy Manning, four brothers (Denny, Fred, Greg, and Brad) and one sister (Marsha). One brother (Gary) preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 15, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful 24th ward located at 720 East 550 North in Bountiful. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday night and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday morning at the Bountiful 24th Ward chapel.
