NASA protects its own

For 10 years I investigated NASA and its bureaucrats, so I am not surprised by Paul Recer's story, "NASA shields staff involved in disaster" (Sept. 4). NASA will protect those it sees as loyal to the agency, regardless of competence.

A NASA bureaucrat whose conduct is deemed stupid rather than criminal can still be responsible. And whoever is responsible for causing the shuttle accident should be identified to Congress and fired.
