Obituary: Ilene Baker Cooper

Beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother

- Ilene Baker Cooper, 84, passed away September 11, 2003 in Fillmore. Born Oct 2, 1918 to Dr. William and Ethel Petty Baker in St. George.

Survived by younger sister, Pearl B. (Doyle) Topham, Delta. Married John E. Cooper in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, Oct 1, 1936. Their 51-year union was blessed with five children, Gay Mangold Averett, Ethel (Lee) Stevens, Smithfied, Jolene (Sherman) Stephenson, Sandy, John C. (Janet) Cooper, Fillmore, Cynthia (Curtis) Black, Layton; 24 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, John; daughter, Gay; grandson, Parker.

Lifelong resident of Fillmore. John and Ilene owned and operated Café Ilene, 33 years (1945-78), Truck Stop Café, 33 years (1963-96), and John's Husky Service, 17 years. Active LDS member entire life. Gardening was her passion. Led life of service, giving of time, energy and talents to family, church and community. A woman of faith, unselfishness, hard work and integrity.

Services: September 16, 2003, 11 a.m., Fillmore Stake Center. Friends call Monday, September 15, 7-8:30 p.m., Stake Center and 9:30-10:40 a.m. at church prior to service. Interment Fillmore Cemetery under direction of Nickle Mortuary.
