Obituary: Doyle Robison Pitts

"Gone to see a man about a horse"

Doyle Robison Pitts passed away peacefully on September 16, 2003, just short of his 91st birthday, after a struggle with causes incident to his advanced age.

He was born September 25, 1912 to Thomas Miles Pitts and Mary Celina Robison in Myton, Utah. He married Florence Thomas on April 29, 1935.

He is survived by Florence and their six children: Judy Madsen of Gilbert, Arizona; Richard Pitts (Margaret) of Mesa, Arizona; Joan Behunin (Frank) of Bountiful, Utah; Alan Pitts (Konnie) of Auburn, Washington; Marilyn Burningham (Kent) of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Mark Pitts of Bountiful, Utah. Doyle leaves many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren whom he dearly loved.

Doyle was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a High Priest in the Centerville 11th Ward. Doyle was a philosopher of the Old West and throughout the many trades he plied, he kept his sense of humor. He was a wizard with tools and was called upon often to perform all kinds of repairs for his large family. He had ambitions to be a writer and a painter, both of which he fulfilled with pleasure upon his retirement. Doyle loved to dance. He could work all day and still be ready to dance all night. Until the last few years of poor health, he was seldom seen resting. His children will remember car rides and frequent stops to pull out the binoculars and identify the geologic formations. He endured many years of daily piano practicing by his six children, in addition to the many piano students taught by his wife, mother-in-law and daughters. His life spanned the development of the state of Utah from his early days on the ranch in the Uintah Basin to the present days of road work and rebuilding.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 20, 2003 at 12:00 noon at the Centerville 1st Ward Chapel, 160 South 300 East. The family will receive friends at a viewing Friday evening from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and Saturday morning from 10:45-11:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
