BRIGHTON — A 37-year-old man was injured Saturday when he fell about 30 feet while hiking with his family near Mary Lake, southwest of Brighton in Big Cottonwood Canyon.
The accident happened about 12:30 p.m.
The man was listed in stable condition after suffering non-life-threatening injuries, including a broken arm, and rib and jaw injuries. He also lost a tooth and was unconscious for some time after the fall, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Robert Sampson.
The man fell into a field of loose rocks.
Two sheriff's deputies and 12 search and rescue team members responded. The man was flown to a hospital.
The man was with his wife and children at the time. A member of his party used a cell phone to call for emergency assistance, Sampson said.
