Problem is the driver

SHARE Problem is the driver

I was exasperated to read the Aug. 29 letter "Just hang up and drive" detailing yet another complaint about one more inattentive driver causing problems on the road for others due to distraction from a cell phone conversation.

As one who has lived in three Western states and driven extensively all over the country, I can state that the same people who cause safety problems when driving using a cell phone are the same ones who cause problems while driving when they eat, adjust radios, put on makeup or deal with young children in the back seat.

The problem is not the cell phone, it is the driver.

We do not need another law on the books for talking on a cell phone while driving. Instead, we should enforce the laws we already have. Those who cause safety problems while driving should be ticketed for reckless driving.
