Obituary: Gail Guyon Brown, Sr.

Gail Guyon Brown, Sr., age 85, passed away Sept. 18, 2003.

Gail was born in Salt Lake City, May 16, 1918, to Maude Elizabeth Guyon and Dallas Francis Brown, Sr. He married Mary Ann Carter, Dec. 28, 1940, who passed away on May 20, 2002.

Gail served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he received the purple heart and two clusters. He attended Westminster College. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 50 years of service. During this time he served as the General and Local Chairman of Railroad Conductors and Brakemen for many years. He was appointed by Gov. Calvin Rampton as State Athletic Commissioner and served in that capacity for several years.

Gail is survived by his son, Gail G. (Connie) Brown, Jr. and daughters, Judy (Larry) Volk, Cori (Michael) Oakden, and Robin Jensen; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grand-children. The Brown family extends a special thanks to Dr. James E. Pearl, for his compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003 at 12 noon, at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple. We invite family and friends to a viewing on Monday, 6:30-8 p.m. and 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service at Larkin Mortuary.
