When I read the four-part series on the shameful shootings at Chevys, I had to ask myself the purpose of the articles. Surely the Deseret Morning News wouldn't want the families to relive this horror needlessly. Seeing the date of the incident told me that it was not even the anniversary of the shootings.
Then it occurred to me that maybe the Deseret Morning News was trying to take an angle they have never attempted. Just maybe they were trying to show us the importance of the right-to-carry laws. A difference would have been made if just one of the patrons had had a concealed-carry permit.
Instances like this one, Luby's Diner in Texas and McDonald's in San Diego show that it is our right and responsibility to protect ourselves from those that would do us harm.
