Angel Kwolek-Follend, a professor of history at the University of Florida, will visit Utah Valley State College to discuss the ideas, the individuals and the events that significantly altered the study of history.

Kwolek-Follend will speak at 7 p.m. in Room 101 of the Liberal Arts Building on campus.

Kwolek-Follend will address "After the Third Wave: Toward a Transdisciplinary Gender History." She is the director of the Center for Women's Studies and Gender Research at the University of Florida and has won the Western Association of Women Historians' Sierra Book Prize for her book "Engendering Business: Men and Women in the Corporate Office from 1870-1930"

Tuesday, Sept. 23

Helen Thomas, known as "The First Lady of the Press" and a White House correspondent for United Press International for more than 57 years, will speak at a BYU forum at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

Arden Pope, a BYU economics professor, will speak at the Harold B. Lee Library's House of Learning Lecture at 2 p.m. in the Lee Library Auditorium. Pope's lecture is titled "Economics, Ethics and Environmental Stewardship."

Wednesday, Sept. 24

"La Ciudad" will be shown in the Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium at 5 p.m. on the Brigham Young University campus as part of the library's Hispanic Film Series. The series is part of Hispanic Awareness Month. Mark Grover, a Latin American studies bibliographer in the library, will introduce the film.

The annual "World of Dance" showcasing the International Folk Dance Ensemble, Ballroom Dance Company, Dancers' Company, Theatre Ballet and Cougarettes will be presented at 8 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall at Brigham Young University. The annual "World of Dance" showcasing the International Folk Dance Ensemble, Ballroom Dance Company, Dancers' Company, Theatre Ballet and Cougarettes continues at 8 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall at Brigham Young University. Tickets are $10 at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, 801-378-4322 or at www.byu.edu/hfac.

Utah Valley State College presents the Utah Regional Ballet's fall performance and choreography showcase at 7:30 p.m. in the Ragan Theatre on campus. The event will include a mixture of contemporary, modern dance and classical ballet.

The college has been home to the ballet company for the past seven years. The Regional Ballet brings in four choreographers each fall to work with dancers. After an intensive two-week training and practice period, the dancers hold a showcase performance.

Tickets are $12 and are available through Campus Connection at 863-8797.

Saturday, Sept. 27

The Utah County Pet Fair takes place at the Salem Pond/Knoll Park, 250 W. 300 South, Salem, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Thanksgiving Point hosts the Battle of the Bands — Preliminary Round 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Show Barn. Admission is $7. Band entrance fee is $50. Preliminary rounds conclude Oct. 25. Semifinals will be held Nov. 12 with the finals on Dec. 19.
