Search is narrowed to 3 for SLCC chief

The State Board of Regents has narrowed its search for a president of Salt Lake Community College to three finalists.

Regents started with 59 candidates from 27 states and will meet Monday morning to interview the remaining three and possibly choose a new president.

The finalists are:

Dr. Christine Chairsell, associate vice chancellor for academic and student affairs, University and Community College System of Nevada.

Dr. Robert C. Huddleston, president of Dixie State College.

Dr. L. Jackson Newell, president and senior professor at Deep Springs College in California.

Chairsell is also Nevada state director of community colleges.

Prior to 1993, Huddleston was dean of instruction for GateWay Community College in Phoenix and associate dean of instruction for San Juan College in Farmington, N.M.

Newell is an emeritus professor at the University of Utah, where he taught for 25 years and was also dean of liberal education for 16 years. He was also dean of student affairs for eight years at the U.
