South Salt Lake Valley residents now have an extra month to make comments about a plan to clean up polluted groundwater from Kennecott Utah Copper Corp.
At an earlier September meeting, residents asked Natural Resource Damage Trustee and Utah Department of Environmental Quality Director Diane Nielson for more time to review the complex plan.
A public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, 3:30-6:30 p.m., at the UDEQ, 168 N. 1950 West, room 101. The hearing will include an information review, a presentation of the cleanup plan, a question-and-answer period and a public comment session.
Two other informational meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, 7-9 p.m., and Oct. 22, 7 -9 p.m., also at UDEQ.
The cleanup plan will provide municipal-quality drinking water, distributed by the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District, to West Jordan, South Jordan, Riverton and Herriman. The treatment process also will help Kennecott contain the contaminated groundwater.
