MIDVALE — Fire investigators have determined that a blaze at a boat retailer Sunday was set intentionally.

Two boats were destroyed and three boats were damaged at Pier 84 Boats and Marina, 8452 S. State, Midvale Fire Capt. Jay Thomas said. Damage is estimated at $75,000.

About 9:30 p.m. Sunday, someone climbed a fence to access the store's outside lot. An accelerant was poured over the boats and ignited, Thomas said.

The store is not open on Sundays.

The fire was doused in about 15 minutes.

Mike Sandor, who owns the business, said the boats are privately owned and were in the Pier 84 lot awaiting service. He said the boats were 20- and 24-foot "pleasure" boats of varying ages.
