ELSINORE, UTAH<! > Sylvan James Marx of Elsinore died Wednesday morning, Sept. 24 in Richfield Utah.
Born June 26, 1918, to LeRoy and Christel Ivy Andersen Marx, Sylvan graduated from South Sevier High School and attended Brigham Young University for one year. He married Marie Jensen on November 22, 1939; their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. His devoted wife for over 60 years, Marie passed away August 13, 2000. Sylvan served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was later employed at the Tooele Army Depot and then at Hill Air Force Base. Upon retirement, Sylvan and Marie moved to Bicknell, Utah, where they built their own home and Sylvan pursued his interests in hunting, fishing and church activities. An active member of the LDS Church, he served as scout master, Young Men's Secretary, executive secretary, finance clerk and then as ward clerk for many years. He and Marie served missions in the Dominican Republic Santo Domingo Mission in 1984-85 and in the Dallas Texas Spanish speaking mission in 1987-98. Sylvan's last years were spent in
Elsinore where he was born.
He is survived by his two children, James Marx, Elsinore; Susan Marx Brothersen, Logan; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers: Dallin Marx, Elsinore; David Wayne Marx, Tucson, Ariz.
Preceded in death by parents; wife, Marie; sisters: Glenna and Grace.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 27, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. in the Elsinore LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Elsinore Cemetery. Funeral directors, Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary, Richfield, UT.
