KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — A middle-age convicted murderer who ran off with a 14-year-old Michigan girl for about three weeks was sentenced Thursday to 25 years in federal prison.
Terry Drake, 56, offered a brief apology to the girl's parents before a federal judge imposed the sentence. His statement did not include an apology to the girl.
Drake, of Middlebury, Ind., pleaded guilty in June to five federal sex and weapons charges. In exchange, state charges in Michigan and California were dropped.
Authorities said Drake had a relationship with Lindsey Ryan, who lives near the town of Jones in southwestern Michigan, and fled with her to California, where they were apprehended March 24.
