Somali activist Omar Jamal, who is reportedly threatened with deportation by U.S. authorities, will tell his story in Salt Lake City today.
Jamal, director of the Somali Justice Center in Minneapolis, said he was arrested by federal agents and charged with filing a false asylum application, due to what he called minor errors on the form.
His Utah appearance is part of a benefit dinner for the Omar Jamal Defense Fund, sponsored by the Green Party of Utah and People for Peace and Justice. The suggested donation is $10.
Jamal will speak at 6 p.m. at the Jubilee Center, 309 E. 100 South. Call the Green Party of Utah at 631-2998 for more information.
