Dallas-based Odyssey HealthCare Inc. said Tuesday it has acquired Utah's Heritage Hospice LLC.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The Utah hospice program provides care to about 280 patients from Salt Lake City, Ogden and St. George and the surrounding areas.

Odyssey, which operates in 27 other states, has not previously provided care in Utah. Its services are provided in patient homes, long-term-care facilities, nursing homes or hospitals.

The newly acquired health-care provider will be called Odyssey HealthCare of Utah.

Including the acquisition of a Nebraska hospice program also announced Tuesday, Odyssey has acquired seven hospice programs in 2003. The acquired programs had a total of 517 patients at the time of their purchase. The company has 60 Medicare-certified hospice programs in 78 locations.
