PROVO — The First Fridays Downtown Gallery Stroll will kick off this Friday, continuing the first Friday of each month through May, from 6 to 8 p.m.
A new art gallery, the Terra Nova Gallery, 41 W. 300 North, will display work by local artists. In September, 14 local artists will be featured. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. this Friday in conjunction with the gallery stroll.
Most of the artists displaying work in the gallery will be at the opening reception, including Barbara A. Lyman. Lyman has had paintings displayed in national, state and regional art shows.
Other artists who will have work on display at the Terra Nova Gallery include sculptor Ben Hammond and Clay Wagstaff, the recent first-place winner in the Freedom Festival Fine Arts Exhibit.
At the Provo Arts Center Gallery, 425 W. Center, guest curator Greg Caldwell will be displaying works from his favorite artists. Patrons who stop by during the gallery stroll can enjoy refreshments and meet some of the artists.
The art gallery on the second floor of the Provo City Library at Academy Square, 550 N. University Ave., will be displaying entries gathered from around the country to a juried art show with a literacy theme.
The Window Box Gallery, 62 W. Center, is featuring work by James Christensen, Greg Olsen, Liz Lemon Swindle, Bev Doolittle and many others.
After the stroll, there will be a concert at the Provo Arts Center, 425 W. Center. Admission is $2 per person or $12 for a family. This month, Lee Fugal will be doing his "Creative Musical Comedy" show. Tickets went on sale Tuesday at the Window Box Gallery, open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The gallery will be open until 8 p.m. the night of the concert. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
