Obituary: Leona Virginia Carroll Urry

1917 ~ 2003

On September 28, 2003, our beautiful mother, grandmother, friend and gracious southern lady completed her mortal journey at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Grace and David Henderson.

Virginia was born January 27, 1917 in Bostwick, Florida. Her parents were Erma Elmira Hodges and William Alexander Carroll.

Virginia served an LDS mission in the Southern States with Apostles Charles A. Callis and LeGrand Richards as Mission Presidents. It was during this time that the bright blue eyes of Elder Francis L. Urry caught her attention. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 11, 1936. Together they raised four children.

Virginia loved the gospel of Jesus Christ. She believed in cleanliness of body, mind, spirit and home. She adored her "babies" of every generation and demonstrated her devotion to us with homemade grape jelly, "grandma's" cereal, applesauce chocolate-chip cookies, green beans from her garden and much more. She loved her home and garden on 13th Avenue in Salt Lake City.

She is survived by her four children, Francis M. Urry (Judy), Virginia Jensen (J. Rees), Jane Harris (Van L.), Grace Henderson (David J.), 20 grandchildren and 38 great-grand-children. She was preceded in death by her husband Francis L. Urry, her granddaughter Linda Rae Urry, her grandson Michael Van Harris, her parents, two brothers and her sister.

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Vista Hospice Care - Ogden, and the wonderful women who helped with her care for the past two years, including Holly Willneth, LuAnn Timmerman, Elaine Porter, Megan Campbell, Marva Mecham, Liz Hall, Julie Peterson, and Cindee McKnight.

Funeral services will be held at Noon, Thursday, Oct. 2, in the Ensign 4th Ward, 465 North K Street, Salt Lake City. Family and friends are invited to visit from 10:45-11:45 a.m. Funeral Directors, Larkin Mortuary.
