S.L. teacher gets Michael Jordan grant

Gareth Orr, a social studies teacher at Center City School, has been awarded a $2,500 grant from the Michael Jordan Foundation.

"It is important for students to see how a person's past affects their current choices. We will visit the Goshute Indian Reservation to get a firsthand look at why the residents want to store nuclear waste," said Orr. "That type of perspective has not been provided to these students in the past."

Center City School, 2416 E. 1700 South, is a charter school for students in grades seven through 10.
