PROVO — The Utah County Sheriff's Office received a $6,000 grant through the Local law enforcement block grants program.
The money will go toward the purchase of seven taser guns — which send a shock to temporarily disable an attacker.
"We're trying to go to items that are less than lethal," said Utah County Sheriff Sgt. Dennis Harris.
Harris said the stun guns will not shock a police officer if they are holding the attacker at the same time.
"It takes a toll on the muscle system," Harris said. "It puts out a whole lot of voltage."
