Obituary: G. Allen Young

1948 ~ 2003

Allen Young (age 55) was transferred as President of the Taiwan Kaohsiung Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to a higher calling. He left for his new assignment on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2003.

Larger than life, Big Al loved life and people. He let his light shine on everyone he met. He was vibrant and enthusiastic until cancer invaded his world just a few short months ago.

He leaves his wife, Sharon Young; daughter, Melanie Young, daughter, Charlotte (Bryan) Coester, granddaughter, Macy, grandson, Keller, son, Blake Allen (Elizabeth) Young; parents, James and Mary Young; sister, Frances Ripley (Robert); brother, David (Joann) Young; and 160 Taiwan Kaohsiung Missionaries to continue the effort of his greatest love, "living and sharing the message of Jesus Christ." As a young man he served a mission in the Southern Far East speaking Mandarin Chinese with exceptional ability. He graduated from the University of Utah with a BA in Philosophy and later earned an MBA. After a 23 year career in software design, he retired from Utah Power & Light Company. He celebrated this gift of time by returning to Taiwan as a Mission President.

A viewing will be held Sunday, Sept. 7th at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy, from 6-9 p.m. A funeral will be held Monday, Sept. 8th at 12 noon with a viewing from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Granite View Stake House, 9880 South 3100 East, Sandy. Interment at the Larkin Sunset Gardens.
