Two snowmobilers were airlifted out of Santaquin Canyon Saturday after they became lost descending from the Mount Nebo scenic loop.
Kimble Smith and Trent Beesley of Provo separated from their friends and could not get back to the top. The two spent several hours crisscrossing the canyon looking for a way out, said Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon.
"They were very wet, very cold and very stuck," Cannon said.
Their friends contacted the sheriff's office after they couldn't find the two and after they heard several avalanches.
A Life Flight helicopter picked up the two snowmobilers about a mile and a half above the Tinney Flat area and returned them to Tinney Flat.
Officers used the helicopter to avoid the risk of getting to the snowmobilers on the ground and not for medical reasons.
