The October Garden Walk at Thanksgiving Gardens will focus on ornamental grasses, which are at their best right now. The walks are free to season-pass holders or with garden admission.

Deseret Morning News garden columnist Larry Sagers will teach a landscape design class at Thanksgiving Point beginning Oct. 5. The fee is $40. For more information or to register, call 801-768-7443 or log on to www.thanksgivingpoint.com.

Peter Lassig, former gardener at Temple Square, will teach two classes on spring bulbs at Red Butte Gardens Saturday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Red Butte is also hosting many other classes. Check the Web site, www.redbuttegarden.org, or call 581-4747.

Western Garden Center, 4050 W. 4100 South, received the 2004 West Valley City/Granger-Hunter Water Improvement District's water-wise landscape award for its efforts in conserving water.

The Utah Native Plant Society's annual meeting is Saturday, 2 p.m., at the Provo City Library, 550 N. University Ave. Sherel Goodrich, ecologist for Ashley National Forest, will speak. The free event will be preceded by a potluck dinner. For more information, log on to www.unps.org.
