Salt Lake-based Weider Nutrition International Inc. on Thursday reported net income of $3.7 million, or 14 cents per share, for the fiscal 2005 first quarter. That compares with $2.2 million, or 8 cents per share, for the same quarter a year ago.
Net sales for the quarter ended Aug. 31 totaled $69.8 million, up from $63.6 million for the same period a year ago.
Weider Nutrition develops, manufactures, markets and sells branded and private-label vitamins, nutritional supplements and sports nutrition products.
The company's stock rose 67 cents Thursday to close at $4.55 per share. During the past year, the price has ranged from $2.85 to $5.33.
