SPANISH FORK — It was a "cheese whiz" kind of incident on I-15 in Spanish Fork Thursday afternoon after a Wisconsin truck driver escaped uninjured when his cheese ladened semitrailer truck collided with a bridge abutment at the Main Street interchange.
The collision totaled the trailer portion of truck, which was traveling north at the time, a Utah Highway Patrol spokesman said.
One lane was temporarily closed while crews cleaned up the wreckage and spilled goods.
Utah Department of Transportation engineers said the pillars supporting the bridge sustained no structural damage, although a 100-foot section of guard rail was destroyed. The impact with the guard rail redirected the truck's path causing it to hit the abutment pillar at an angle instead of head on, allowing the pillar to withstand the impact.
