Obituary: Darlene Brower Utley

1914 ~ 2004

Darlene Brower Utley died Oct. 11, 2004 at the age of 90 after a long healthy and fulfilling life.

She was born July 29, 1914 in Salt Lake City, UT to Ormus Earl & Sarah Robinson. After several years of traveling in Utah and Idaho, the family settled in Fillmore, UT. This is where she was raised and later married her childhood sweetheart, Reed Utley. They later moved back to Salt Lake City to run and operate the family scrap business, and finally retired to Mountain View, Wyoming. After nearly fifteen years of ranching in Wyoming she returned to the Salt Lake area to finally retire to be closer to children and grandchildren.

Darlene was an accomplished artist and enjoyed painting in the outdoors and often painted livestock, horses, and western themes. She enjoyed square dancing. She and Reed owned and raced horses for a number of years and had several champion horses. She was also active in the rodeo circuit in the Wyoming area where she participated as a timer and scorekeeper.

Darlene was a wonderful and caring mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, friend and wife. She was always helping and caring for someone else's needs. She was very unselfish and never wanted anyone to make a big fuss over her. She was always keeping busy and making the most of her time. As a child of the great depression era, she was very frugal and thankful of everything she had. She was the pillar of strength and consistency for our wonderful family. She will be truly missed. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities over the years.

Survivors include: sisters, Ruthmary Brower, Naomi Fitzgerald, Peggy Robison and Shirley Dobson; daughters: Renee Hall (Aki) Hamada of Philadelphia and Geraldine (Gary) Litzo, Salt Lake City; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grand children and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Reed Utley and son, Stephen B. Utley; sisters, Zola Utley and Lucy Dawn Draper.

Funeral services will be Thurs. Oct. 14th at 12:00 noon at the South Cottonwood 4th Ward, 981 East 5600 South (on Revere Circle). Viewing will be 10-11:45 am at the church. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens, Sandy, UT.
