Obituary: Bernice Durrant Johnson


Bernice Durrant Johnson passed away October 11, 2004 at home in Payson, Utah surrounded by her loving family after struggling with health problems for several years.

Bernice was born in Provo, Utah, October 03, 1924 to Arthur Joseph, Jr. and Eva Davis Durrant. She graduated from Jordan High School.

She married Lawrence Robert Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple October 18, 1943. They moved to Payson, Utah in 1946. Together they raised, taught and loved five children. She served in the PTA and several church positions. She and her husband served as temple workers for two years from 1987 to 1989. She worked at various jobs throughout her life, some of which were Mountain View Hospital, Barbizon of Utah, and Milt's Polar Queen. She was an excellent seamstress and a wonderful cook. In her younger years she loved to dance. She loved going on picnics and just being with her family.

The legacy of family she leaves behind includes her husband of nearly 61 years Lawrence Robert (Bill) Johnson, their children Bonnie Jean (Bub) Riding, Salem, Alan Robert (NormaRae) Johnson, Payson, Shauna Lee (Terry) Jones, Santaquin, Kyle D. (Kathy) Johnson, Orem, and Lori Ann (Glen) Holman, Payson, 29 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents, brother Arthur Joseph Durrant III and grandson Nicholas Jones.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 15, 2004, 11:00 a.m., in the Spring Lake Third Ward Chapel, 586 West 1750 South, Payson. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Thursday, 6-8:00 p.m., or at the church Friday, 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment in the Payson City Cemetery.
