Martha Almira Peterson Peterson was born April 29, 1923 in Logan, Utah, the daughter of E.G. and Phoebe Nebeker Peterson.
She passed away after a long illness on October 11, 2004.
Survivors are her husband, Nad A. Peterson of Rancho Santa Fe, CA and five children: Anne Carroll (Stan) Darger, Boise, ID; Christian (Anne) Peterson, Salt Lake City, UT; Elizabeth Chase (Henry) Ingersoll, Rancho Santa Fe, CA; Lane (Jodelle) Peterson, Salt Lake City, UT; Robert (Kathleen) Peterson, Westlake Village, CA. Brother, Chase N. Peterson, Park City, UT. Brother-in-law Madison H. Thomas, Salt Lake City; Sister-in-law Catherine F. Peterson, Logan, UT. 12 granddaughters, seven grandsons.
Martha graduated with a BA degree from Utah State University, Logan, UT. She studied Social Work at the University of Utah and earned her MS degree in Social Work from Catholic University of America, Washington D.C. She married Nad A. Peterson in the Salt Lake Temple on September 7, l948 and during their 56 year marriage they lived in the Washington D.C. area l948-1957, Los Angeles 1957-1977,
Newport Beach 1977-1993, and Rancho Santa Fe from 1993 to the present. Martha was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her Church service included Junior Sunday School, Primary, Relief Society, Temple worker, and various Church choirs and choral groups. She was also affiliated with the Mary Duque Guild (Children's Hospital of Los Angeles), California Utah Women, The Columbia Group, Lambda Delta Sigma, and Chi Omega Fraternity. She served as an officer and director of Ettie Lee Homes for Youth for 25 years beginning in 1976. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and loyal friend. She was accomplished and honored in each of these roles. Her table was always a gathering place for friends and family where she nourished both body and soul with wisdom, love, insight, character, and wonderful food. She loved good music, tennis, needle point, bridge, good literature, children's books, flowers, and especially babies. In her last years she was a victim of Parkinson's disease (1995) and Alzheimer's disease (1999) and was an example of strength and courage throughout.
Funeral Services will be at the Del Mar Ward, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 12701 Torrey Bluff Drive, San Diego, CA on Saturday October 16th, 2004 at 11:00 am, with a viewing beginning 9:30 am. (I-5 to Del Mar Heights Rd. exit. East, one mile. Right onto Torrey Ridge Dr. Torrey Ridge Dr. ends in Church parking lot.)
There will be a graveside service at the Logan City Cemetery, Logan, UT., on Tuesday, October 19th, 2004 at l:00 p.m. Martha's most favored charity was: Ettie Lee Homes for Youth and Family Services, 5146 North Maine Avenue, Baldwin Park, CA 91706-0339.
