Centerville a step closer to a Wal-Mart

CENTERVILLE — Residents here are a step closer to the day when they will wake up with a Wal-Mart Supercenter along Parrish Lane and 400 West, thanks to split votes by the city's Board of Adjustment.

The five-member board voted 3-2 Wednesday night to send back to the Planning Commission the previously denied conditional-use permit and the site plan for the limited purpose of imposing appropriate mitigating conditions.

In each case, the motion to remand to the Planning Commission was made by Board of Adjustment Chairman John Eriksson and seconds were made by member Peter Lassig II. In both votes, Eriksson, Lassig and Ann Hewlett voted in favor of the motions, and Brent Shingleton and Susan Brown voted against.
