SANDY — A 55-year-old woman suffered first- and second-degree burns on her hands and shoulder Thursday during an early morning fire.
Fire crews were called just after 1 a.m. to a mobile home near 100 West and 8800 South. A fire in the kitchen caused about $2,000 damage, mostly to cabinets, said Sandy Fire Battalion Chief Don Rosenkrantz.
The woman was burned while apparently trying to carry a burning trash can out of the home, he said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Rosenkrantz said it apparently started in a drawer, which he said would tend to rule out any potential electrical causes.
