1914 ~ 2004

Our thoughtful, loving, and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, Florence Alice Duckworth Parkin, passed away peacefully in Nephi on October 12, 2004, with her children surrounding her and bidding her good bye as she left her mortal body to return to our Heavenly Father.

Florence was born in Nephi on June 18, 1914, to George William and Gertrude Hewitt Duckworth. She lived most of her entire life in Nephi, attending the public schools, graduating from high school, and raising her family. She made many lasting and precious friendships during this time. She married John H. Parkin on December 9, 1934. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Her loving and devoted husband passed away on May 23, 1990.

Florence will be remembered for her service in teaching cub scouts in Nephi and Salt Lake, serving as a counselor to her ward mutual in Nephi, working with 4-H clubs and judging at county fairs, serving as her ward homemaking leader and later as the stake homemaking leader, and for fulfilling her calling as the secretary to her ward relief society.

In her youth, she loved hiking and climbed Mt. Nebo twice. As a homemaker, Florence was an excellent cook and seamstress. She spent untold hours making beautiful quilts for the new babies in the family, for her grandchildren's graduations and weddings, and for her dear friends. She will be remembered for her many kindnesses to others; small quilts donated to the Primary Children's hospital and quillows given to those that she thought could use something warm and soft to give them comfort. She will be remembered by her family for her wonderful Sunday dinners complete with peas and mint sauce, Yorkshire pudding, and lemon pie; and she will be especially remembered by her family as a strong, independent, and completely devoted wife and mother always seeking and providing the best for them all.

Florence and John made many trips abroad; especially enjoying visits in England to see English relatives accompanied with her brother Harry and wife Carol Duckworth and her sister Trudy and husband Bill Rohletter.

Florence appreciated many special friendships. Most notably was her long-time relationship with her hairdresser, Ellen; and most recently, her caregivers Tiffany, Ann, Heather and Lonnie who gave her special TLC.

Florence is survived by her four children: Dr. George Richard (Janice) Parkin, Layton; John Robert (Adeline) Parkin, Kaysville; Claudia Ann (Melvin) Jarrett, Mt. Pleasant; and Charles Harry (Phyllis) Parkin, Nephi; by 21 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Gertrude (Trudy) Rohletter. She loved them all with a mother's heart.

For those of us who remain with only fond memories of her life on earth, she leaves for us her five favorite words: Thank you and I love you.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Nephi 8th Ward Chapel, 222 South 100 East. Friends may call Monday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 W. 300 N. Nephi, UT and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Nephi Vine Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home.
