Try ethics of golden rule

According to Frank C. Overfelt (Readers' Forum, Oct. 15) homosexuality is not an "officially recognized minority" and is not on the same plane as race, ethnicity and religion. I was not aware that someone had to be an "officially recognized minority" in order to receive the protections of the law. I've always thought that people received the protections of the law simply because they are people.

Throughout time the definition of what is "moral" has varied. We engage in many activities now that would be deemed "immoral" by our Founding Fathers. Personally, I would rather base my actions on the ethics of the golden rule than on constantly changing "morality."
