Free parking looks as if it will return to downtown Salt Lake City this Christmas shopping season.
Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson has forwarded a proposal to the City Council seeking to bag all city parking meters during the holiday season from Nov. 25 to Jan. 2.
It's a proposal similar to one Anderson made last year that the council approved, although this year the parking will be free for only two hours instead of three, if the council approves it.
City leaders figure the free parking will cost the city $114,000 in missed meter revenue and $66,000 in fines.
The council will consider Anderson's proposal Tuesday.
