Several volunteers needed

PROVO — The United Way of Utah County Volunteer Center has a variety of volunteer and service opportunities for area residents. Listed below are this week's featured volunteer needs.

The American Red Cross needs volunteers willing to teach disaster-preparation classes by giving presentations at various schools, churches and at the Red Cross office. For more information, contact Nancy at 373-8580.

The Forest Service needs assistance coordinating Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl appearances at festivals and special events to increase forest awareness. Those with good communication skills are encouraged to volunteer. Contact Gina Sampson at 342-5105 for additional information.

Intermountain Specialized Abuse Treatment Center needs students or others with a background in social services to serve as co-therapists in group therapy sessions. Weekday evenings must be free, and a background check is required. Contact Clare Chadwick, clinical director, at 373-0210 for information.

The Gathering Place is looking for volunteers over age 18 who can give rides to expectant mothers attending prenatal classes on Tuesdays from 11 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Vans will be provided. Call Sonja at 226-2255 for more details.

Habitat for Humanity is currently looking for volunteers to help mentor new Habitat families on the construction and home-buying process. Adult homeowners are preferred. Spanish fluency is helpful but not necessary. Contact Kena Mathews at 344-8527 for information.

The Volunteer Care Clinic needs professional volunteers to provide medical care for low-income and uninsured community members Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-7 p.m. Volunteers must provide licensing documentation; Spanish fluency is helpful but not required. Donated medical supplies or samples are also needed. Contact Jana at 374-8108 for more information.
