Sundance Film Festival has new ticket system

The Sundance Film Festival has implemented a new online pre-registration system for purchasing tickets, ticket packages and festival passes.

This new system is now in effect for the 2005 event, which will run Jan. 20-30 in a variety of Utah locations throughout Salt Lake City, Park City, Ogden and at the Sundance resort in Provo Canyon.

In order to make a purchase, customers have until Oct. 29 to pre-register online at www.sundance.org/locals. On Nov. 1, each registered person will receive, by e-mail, a randomly assigned date and time to purchase locals-only festival passes and ticket packages, which are exclusively for Utah residents and are priced substantially lower than those available to the rest of the world. These packages also mark the first opportunity for Utah residents — or anyone — to select screening tickets.

According to Jill Miller, managing director of the Sundance Institute, the new pre-registration system should reduce wait times and alleviate the pressure on the festival's ticketing system. "We're always looking for ways to improve our customer service," Miller said, "and we've come up with some creative solutions to address the continuing demand for tickets."

Available ticket packages are:

— The Film Lovers Package ($225), which includes 16 tickets to any festival screening or panel discussion.

— The Locals Quick Pass ($200), which includes festival screenings in Salt Lake City and Ogden.

— The SLC Preferred Package ($225), which includes tickets for 20 regular or premiere screenings in Salt Lake City.

The 2005 festival will feature the independent film competition for best dramatic and documentary films, world and regional premieres, international cinema, the Sundance Institute Tribute to Independent Vision, panel discussions with appearances by leading figures in the film industry and other special events.

Festival officials have also announced an expanded number of screenings in Ogden to 12 in the Peery's Egyptian Theater.

The Park City Racquet Club has also become a new screening venue, replacing the Yarrow Hotel.

Package availability is limited. Registrants must provide a valid Utah driver's license number. Limit is one package per person.
