Young patron takes donating to heart

Children participating in the Salt Lake County Library System's summer reading club donated more than 1,000 pairs of new socks for the needy this past summer.

One 11-year-old patron named Sarah was so enthused by the idea that she went one step further, requesting that her birthday party guests bring socks instead of gifts. She collected 75 pairs, saying, "I wanted to do something for others and also show how much I appreciate all of the fun that I have at the library."

The donated socks were handed over to Salt Lake County's Division of Youth Services Thursday at the Kearns Library, 5350 S. 4220 West.
